| David Klaff

David Klaff was the keynote speaker . He outlined some fantastic points on posterior composites.
1} Use the bell curve to plan your work ie: change what you plan to make it work.
2} Use a 3 stage system ie: etch, prime , bond . He personally used Optibond FL.
3} Use a ramp cure light , not a high power one .
4} Use a triangle of dark composite at the base of your cavity , not contacting the side walls at all .
This will give the illusion of depth and reduce shrinkage stress. 5} Polish and seal your posterior composites not bulk adjust .
6} On your anteriors the colour is given by the dentine not the enamel and the dentine is multicoloured not just A2 or A3. 7 } Most anteriors , 80% , have an A shade. 8} Plan your work with a lab wax-up if necesary. 9 } Use Glass-ionomer to bulk restore the posteriors provisionally before doing the permanent restoration months later . That way you improve the prognosis for the final restoration.
This was a lecture that could have filled a whole day ,full of gems I am looking forward to the next installment .
