Course objectives
This one year hands on course is designed to meet the learning needs of dental surgeons who wish to develop their clinical skills in implant dentistry under the guidance of a team of specialists, both surgical and prosthetic.
This is a largely clinical orientated course which concentrates on the management and treatment planning, surgical and restorative procedures of dental implant therapy within the general dental practice environment. It is designed to give a thorough grounding in the principles and practice of implantology.
You will participate in clinical implant placement and prosthodontic rehabilitation.
These highly interactive seminars are designed to stimulate and develop treatment planning skills in implant dentistry.
Course Content
Defining and planning treatment; communicating with patients; carrying out simple procedures required to augment deficient sites and soft tissues; carrying out surgical and restorative aspects of implant therapy; monitoring and maintaining implants.
The Sac Classification will be used throughout the course Straightforward Advanced and Complex to assist diagnosis prognosis and treatment planning.
Attendance on the course is strictly limited to ensure that delegates receive 1-1 tutor training involving treatment planning for dental implants from simple to complex.

Minimum Requirements
Available to IFPDC members in the first instance
Dental Council registration
Indemnity insurance cover at an appropriate level
A current certificate of immunisation against communicable diseases (Hepatitis B)
Participants should be familiar with the fundamentals of surgery and prosthodontics
You will be expected to source in your own clinic 3-4 potentially suitable patients.
Each case presented must be accompanied by articulated diagnostic casts, clinical photographs, radiographs and a thorough medical history of the patient.
Two of these cases will then be selected and treated from the initial assessment. This will be carried out under direct supervision of the tutors.
General Information
Venue: The Northumberland Institute of Dental Medicine, 58 Northumberland Road. Ballsbridge Dublin 4,
Duration: The modules will be delivered over 9 days (ceasing for July and August)
Cost: € 7500.00. Initial deposit of €4000 to accompany application, followed by two instalments of €1750.
Course fees are tax deductible. Participants may opt to charge patients for treatment provided.
This fee covers: tuition, pre-lecture hand outs, course text book, course notes, and materials for practical sessions. This also includes Implants , surgical and prosthetic requirements to complete two cases of single unit restorations. The participants will only be responsible for the laboratory costs.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided each day. Attendance at this course will qualify for CPD credit.
Closing date for applications: Friday 16th March 2012.
CPD activity for 2010-2011 may be taken into consideration when making the final selection. Please list your CPD activity for 2010 – 2011 on the attached form.
In the event of oversubscription places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The first twelve applicants who meet the criteria will be offered places. A waiting list will be set up for unsuccessful applicants.
Successful applicants will be notified by post.
